1. Create An Office -

It is important that you set up a quiet office like setting to be able to focus on your work.

2. Set your work hours -

Many people think "I'll just work when I feel like it." Before you know it the day is gone and you did not achieve what you would have hoped. Set your working hours upfront and stick to them. You will find to be successful at home you will probably be working more hours than you do at the "office"

3. Do not answer the home phone -

During working hours you are AT WORK. Avoid answering personal phone calls unless it is an emergency or you are "on a break". Work time is no time to be socializing.

4. If your business is online then conduct business-

It is too easy to get caught up "surfing the web" rather than getting the job done. There will be plenty of time to surf when the work is done.

5. Take Lunch -

Whether you work at home or at an office it is always important to take a lunch break and get a change of scenery. there are many studies that show how important it is for employees to gt out of the work place during lunch. This is no different when working at home. Go eat in the kitchen, living room or on the deck.

6. Make sure the kids have activities -

If your kids are school age then it will be much easier but during summer months you and them both need to understand that you are at work even though your work is at home. Plan ahead and make sure the kids have plenty of things to occupy their time while you are working.

7. Do not spend while you are earning -

The internet has plenty of temptations that can burn a hole in your pocket. Billions of dollars are spent online every year. Remember that you are online to make money not spend it. I don't know how many stories I have heard of the spouse who decided to work from home and ended up spending hundreds online shopping while they were "working"

Working at home is the best job in the world but we have to remember it is a JOB and the work must get done every day. There is no boss looking over our shoulder or setting deadlines to complete a project. This is a good thing and can be a bad thing if we do not maintain a disciplined work schedule.
